Speak Up

Get up. Stand up. Speak up. Do something. — Tarana Burke
A woman surrounded by darkness looking up.

Whenever you see an injustice, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, whenever you hear someone is not treated fairly, whenever something morally dubious happens, it is up to you to speak up.

You don’t have to create a conflict, you don’t have to alienate anybody, but it is up to you (yes, you, particularly if you’re coming from a position of privilege—and especially so if you’re white, straight or male) to let everybody know that this is not acceptable, that we can hold ourselves to a higher standard and that we can make everybody feel respected, valued and appreciated, regardless of their race, religion, or orientation.

Now more than ever, it’s time to speak up, it’s time to abolish our differences and make a world a better, fairer place.

And as always, it’s best to start with ourselves.
