You Can’t Always Get What You Want
“You can’t always get what you want. But if you try sometimes well you just might find, you get what you need.” — Mick Jagger & Keith Richards
Some of our readers pointed out that the advice I’ve given in the last week’s newsletter doesn’t always hold up, and that you can’t always get what you want.
And they are right. The truth is that you never get what you want, you only get what you need. Sometimes this overlaps with what you want, but not always, and not necessarily.
And you know what? That’s fine. This helps us look at things from a different perspective. This is what helps us grow.
If something that you want isn’t working out even after a ton of trying (BTW, a couple of months is not a ton of trying), perhaps that’s for the best. Move on and see what other wondrous things life has in store for you.
To Get What You Need, You Have To Do What You Don’t Want
Not getting what we want, when we want it, is one of life’s hardest lessons to learn.
You Can’t Always Get What You Want
Think about what you need, not what you want. Take time to think about the value of time, of flexibility to try new things, to sit back and think, write, read. You need a lot less than you think.
Until Next Week
If you don’t get what you want, it just means that you don’t really need it at this point in your life.
