You’re Privileged

"When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love." — Marcus Aurelius
A surreal artwork with characters made of geometric shapes sitting in the clouds.
Everyone is an island with their own problems, worries, joys, and thoughts. Just like in this sentimental, therapeutic piece by Logan Walden.

If you’re reading this, you’re privileged.

Even today, many people still don’t have access to electricity, food, or freshwater. And while we consider if we should get a new phone or laptop, they worry if they can make ends meet.

There are people who struggle with mental illness, who are unable to think clearly, read, or even perform the most basic tasks. If you can read this, if you’re alive and healthy, you’re privileged.

And you can view this as a reason to get depressed about the state of things, or you can view this as a chance to make a difference.

Yes, if you can, help out those in real need. But most importantly, use your privilege for good. You have the tools to create, build, share, connect. You have unlimited resources online at your disposal to think, learn, grow and improve.

Others would give everything to be in your position. (And yes, I know that your struggles are real and challenging as well; I’m not trying to undermine them. And I do understand that you’re far from privileged in all areas of your life, particularly if you’re not white, straight, or male.)

Do what you can with what you have. Appreciate where you are, and do everything you can to lift up those around you.
