You Miss All Shots That You Don’t Take

Nothing is more expensive than a missed opportunity. — H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
A person standing in the middle of a wheat field, looking into the ground.

If you ask the dying what their biggest regret is, most of them will single out failing to follow their dreams and live up to their full potential.

Additionally, they regret working too much, not staying in touch with their close friends, not having the courage to express their feelings, and not letting themselves be happier.

And when I’m thinking about my own regrets, it’s always the things I didn’t do because I was too scared, because I didn’t believe in myself, because I overthought important decisions, because I made up stories to stay within my comfort zone.

I never think with regret about the things I did, even if they haven’t worked out, even if they resulted in me getting hurt, disappointed, or disheartened.

Like the dying, I only really regret the shots that I don’t take.

What if you make a habit when facing a difficult decision to reflect on how you’ll feel about it on your deathbed? Will you regret not taking this particular chance?

If so, can you find a way to make the shot right now anyway?
