Inspiration Is for Amateurs
Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work. — Chuck Close
If you want to do any creative work, the worst thing you can do is wait for inspiration to strike. You’ll never get anything done this way. At least not consistently.
What to do instead? Sit down and get to work.
Get that bad novel out of your system, create an uninspired art, write a sleazy song. You don’t have to show it to anyone, but you need to make it clear to your mind that inspiration is not optional, that it has to show up every day when you sit down and start creating.
It will be difficult at the beginning, but with time and practice, it will get easier, and eventually, you won’t even have to think about inspiration.
Now get to work and create something predictably, consistently uninspiring.
